There are two main reasons why a one-to-one business coach makes great sense.
First, speed bumps are common and can slow down your momentum.
An external business coach can help you see the difference between a mere speed bump and an actual hurdle. Having a business coach to remove those speed bumps quickly and easily, enables you to maximise your effect, use your momentum, and go further, faster.
Second, a business coach is invaluable for blind spots.
Everyone has blind spots. And the frustrating part? You don’t know what you don’t know.
Your blind spots cost you money, effort, time and peace-of-mind. Having an objective business coach who lovingly points out how your thinking, attitude or beliefs are actively hindering your progress is invaluable. Hi, I’m Brook McCarthy. I’m based in Sydney Australia and do online business coaching with owners across the world.
I’ve been a business coach for more than 12 years, and have more than 19 years’ experience in digital communications. I worked first in Public Relations, then owned a digital marketing and copy writing agency in the early days of digital, before transitioning slowly into coaching, mentoring and training. I’ve run my own business since 2008.
I’ve been told I’m not a typical business coach.
I learnt about business and marketing in the real world. My father was a small business owner in Sydney and, at the ripe old age of 17, I was answering the phone to creditors chasing overdue payments, sending invoices, folding press releases, and helping with countless other things. I supported my Dad through the challenges of growing and shrinking a consultancy.
I also learnt business when working in Cambodia and Vietnam for two years as a small group tour leader.
This role was the steepest learning curve of my career, giving me skills in intercultural communication, bonding a diverse group of individuals in highly stressful situations, which requires displaying skilful cross-confident communication and dealing with the 6,789 unforeseeable situations as those arose. I learnt the art of making quick, and sometimes difficult decisions, while acting confidently (when you’re feeling anything but).
Since 2012, I’ve coached innumerable CEOs, leaders and experts. I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to grit through it alone. There’s a better way to build your business – where you’re both well-rested as well as highly profitable.

I’m not going to give you advice that you can find in a book or blog post. You have unique strengths, expertise, style, and history. You require a unique coaching approach that works for you.
I'm also your advocate and board member
I’m not just coaching. I’m also, at times, advocating on your behalf, putting your name forward for opportunities (with your consent) and advising you, like a trusted board member.
Quick decisions, quick action
Decision-making is a fundamental business skill. I strongly believe in the power of quick decisions when it comes to driving progress. When we’re continually testing and iterating, we foster a dynamic, proactive attitude that drives growth and success.
I'm not a 'yes' girl
Don’t hire me to tell you you’re wonderful and everything is great. I get straight to the heart of things. Variously, I’m going to challenge and debate you, tell you what you don’t want to hear, give you astute advice, support you through big decisions and transitions, and yes, celebrate you, too.
No gate-keeping
As a one-to-one client, there’s no question that’s off the table. If you’re interested, I’ll share everything I know (and then some).

- You’ve got experience – you’re not a total newbie to business. Ideally, you’re at least 18 months in business.

- You haven’t yet launched (check out my courses instead).
- You’re looking for a secret formula or quick fix, without any additional effort on your part.
- You don’t want to do any follow-through actions or homework after our sessions, you just want to talk.
- You’re unwilling to look at any problematic thinking and beliefs, self-sabotaging tendencies, or old, unhelpful stories that you might have.
- Please no whiners, complainers, projectors, blamers, nit-pickers, perfectionists, and those looking for a mother figure (I’m not your gal).
How one-to-one business coaching works:

- All good things take time. Business coaching is a minimum four-month commitment, with sessions on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly cadence.
- Our first session together is 90-120 minutes as we attempt to empty your head into mine. We review where you're at and where you want to be, and uncover key goals you have for your business coaching. Following sessions are 60 minutes.
- Together, we develop your Action Plan which includes the key short-term and long-term goals we've set together. This is a collaborative, online document that ensures you'll always know what you're doing, what to prioritise, and (most importantly) what you don't have to worry about.
- You have access to me in between sessions via email and WhatsApp for any freak-outs and epiphanies, clarifying questions, or "help please!" requests for further information.
- You'll have access to my little black book of trusted industry experts (invaluable!). If you need a copywriter, website designer, SEO nerd, photographer, videographer, PR person or extraordinary organising-type person, I can help you find the right person and work with them (and no, I didn't find them on Fiverr or through a quick Google search, and I don't recommend you do this either!).
- Supporting information, templates and exercises, as relevant, which I've developed and tested in large and small training groups.
