Digital Marketing Essentials course
People expect more information from businesses than ever before. We want to Google you (and find you). Smartphones and rising internet usage make it easy for us to compare your business with your competitors’ businesses (possibly from our smartphones, possibly while sitting on your toilet or hiding in your change room).
We don’t just want to know what you sell, we want to know how your business is different, what you think about the problems your business solves, and how you can make people’s lives easier, simpler, more stylish or more productive.
How do you keep up the constant hustle of the digital world?
>> How can your marketing be powerfully relevant, useful and valuable to your specific ideal client group? How can you avoid becoming the elevator music of the internet?
>> How can you simplify, systematise, streamline and automate your marketing as much as possible, without losing personability?
>> What key areas of online marketing do you need to focus on, and – sing hallelujah! – what can you drop and stop worrying about?
Learn essential digital marketing skills, strategies and tactics to untangle the web and make sense of the digital puzzle. I’ll show you how to make your business stand out amid the noise and clutter online, while keeping your sanity (and sleep) intact.
What we cover:
Your Content Marketing plan
Across five live, online sessions, we’ll be putting together your 12-month Content Marketing Plan. We walk through my million dollar creative questions, designed to tease out your particular, unique creative messaging – so you can say something worth listening to, to magnetises your ideal clients to you. We examine the why behind what we communicate so that we understand exactly how it works, and you can replicate this process for many more years to come.

Social media ninja skills
Social media is a massive topic, so we’re focusing only on those channels that are most relevant to your business and your communication strengths. I’ll share my social media freedom system so that you can get the biggest result in the least amount of time.
Social video
Social video is on the up-and-up and represents a fantastic opportunity for small businesses with little or no marketing budget. We look at how you can get over yourself and get out there, to accelerate the ‘know, like and trust’ factor with prospective clients, without looking (or feeling) like a ninny.
Email marketing essentials
Email marketing continues to outperform every other digital channel. ‘The money’s in the list!’ they say. Whether you have a list of 1000s or you’re just starting out, learn how to make your email marketing intimate, magnetic, and effective.
Fantastic tech tools
No, I’m not recommending massive system tools that are outrageously expensive. Most of the software and apps we’ll use and look at are free or low-cost. But they’ll change how you work, reducing your time and heightening your professionalism.

About the presenter, Brook McCarthy
I’m head trainer and business coach here at Hustle & Heart.
I’m a self-employment geek, who’s run my own business for 16 years now, making me happily unemployable (hopefully, for the rest of my life).
With a background in Public Relations, I equip and empower values-based business owners to say something worth listening to, and do something worth talking about. I believes that the future of business is for profit and purpose, love and money, with hustle and heart.
Since 2012 I’ve run both face-to-face and online courses on digital marketing, to equip and empower participants with the tools, knowledge and perspective to combine creativity with smart business strategy. I’ve also taught digital marketing on behalf of Swinburne University, Australian Catholic University, General Assembly, Academy XI, and at countless organisations across Australia, large and small.
Let me show you how to bring all your marketing tactics together into one cohesive marketing plan, guided by your unique strategy, developed by you, with guidance from me.
Questions?
What level is this course? Beginners? Intermediate?
This course is general-level, which means some basic knowledge is assumed, but there’s something for everyone. When I introduce a new technology or tactic, I’ll show you how you can apply it if you’re a beginner, intermediate level or advanced.
This course is not just about technology, though. We’re going to be doing lots of creative brainstorming to use in our 2022 marketing plan. Because technology is great, but storytelling is how you reach through screens to pluck the heartstrings of strangers and create the ‘know, like and trust’ factor that’s essential for strangers to become buyers.
How are you going to cover all those topics?
Excellent question! There’s a lot cover in a short period of time. I’m focusing only on the top and most essential things that you need to know to do an awesome job of digital marketing in 2022 and beyond.
Yes, there are many things you could do. We’re not going to cover anything. Instead, I’m going to guide you through deciding what is best, most relevant and appropriate for you to do, through the framework of my Minimum Viable Marketing Plan, which covers the least you need to do to build your professional reputation (not just be a transaction business or transitory customers).
Where is this course?
In the comfort of your home/office/park bench. This is an online course (since 2021!). You will need reliable internet access, a quiet background, and your good self. That is all.
I know warm bodies in a room is awesome, but a live, online course makes sense when we’re learning digital marketing, yes? We learn, we do, we learn, we do, and so on. I want you using as many of the tools we’re covering as possible and this live, online course makes it far easier.
Can I really hope to walk away with a finished marketing plan?
Yes indeed. Of course, you’ll have to put effort in, unless you’re magic.
The preliminary questionnaire is designed to tease out some foundational pieces, which we’ll be using in our marketing plans. Then throughout the course, you’ll be given creative brainstorming tasks to help flesh out the marketing plan further. Finally, we’ll do the hard stuff at the end, by which time you’ll be far more knowledgeable about the ins and outs of digital marketing, how all the pieces fit together, what your audience most wants to see/hear/know/feel/understand, and what your communications strengths and preferences are.
So yes, my friend, you’ll enter 2022 with your marketing plan in hand, to provide the map for where you want to go.
What software or technology is covered?
We’re looking at WordPress predominantly, but also touching on Squarespace. We’re talking about Mailchimp and Active Campaign, as well as Canva, Buffer, Tailwind, Bonjoro and VideoAsk, amongst others! No, you don’t need to rush out and sign up for all these. In fact, I’m going to advise against this. Instead, we’ll get a backstage view on certain technologies and get an experience using some of them.
Then you’re far better placed to make an informed decision on what will work for you (not all of them!).
Does this course apply to small or large businesses?
This course is predominantly for small businesses and micro enterprises. Which means that I’m teaching for people who are likely wearing many hats, with little or no team to delegate to. This is why we start with minimum viable marketing, and go from there.
However, the same principles of marketing apply no matter what industry, sector, business size or type. Many people come to learn about digital marketing so that they’re far better equipped to outsource and manage others who will be implementing. Outsourcing digital marketing to others when you don’t have a solid understanding of this is a recipe for disaster.
What can I do to get the most out of this course?
Thanks for asking, I like you already. Once you pay, you’ll be redirected to fill out a form to give me the essential information that I need to ensure you get the most out of this course. After you complete this, I’ll send you your preparatory task.
To do this well will take a little time (you’ll be using everything you do to put into your marketing plan later), so if you’re keen on this course, don’t wait to book. The sooner, the better.
When are you next running this course?
I run courses when each course interest list reaches a certain number. Please register your interest in the course and I will be in touch as soon as a date is scheduled.
If the course is currently open for enrollment, but the timing doesn’t suit, can I boldly suggest that you reschedule your commitments and make time for it? I’d love to help you write your marketing plan, while learning new skills and technologies in the process.
