What is the one thing that will boost the growth the most?

Boost your business growth the most by embracing your desires without self-censorship. Far too many owners have a vexed relationship with business growth because they equate growth with stress, and they’re already pushed to the edge. Far too many female owners don’t have nearly enough support to grow. So instead, they seek to curb their ambitions and deny their desires (which doesn’t work).

Or, the owner is doing #allthethings but not recognising the massive impact of their own psychology on their ability to grow and scale. They’re focusing on external factors and neglecting their thinking, their identity, their beliefs, opinions and approach. Who are the programs targeted for?

Hustle & Heart clients are values-based business owners who work in professional services. A good third of our clients tend to come from marketing/comms, including copy writers and journalists, marketing strategists and fractional CMOsdesigners and developers, videographers and photographers, marketing agency owners, PRs, crisis comms people, and more.

About a third of clients come are what we love to call ‘knowledge workers’ – which include strategists, consultants, coaches, experts – people who are paid for their ideas, advice and opinions.

And about a third of our clients come from health and wellbeing, including yoga and Pilates teachers, studio owners, physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, psychologists, psychotherapists and others. 

We teach essential sales and marketing skills – that are tailored for where you’re at, with no jargon, no fluff, and no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. We focus on content-led sales (whether face-to-face or online) and digital marketing that actually works, attracting qualified leads, while also growing your professional reputation as a bankable asset.

Is Hustle & Heart suitable for startups or early-stage businesses?

Hustle & Heart has helped innumerable people to start a business, grow to six figures, hire their first team members, and further refine their business model towards something truly innovative that suits the owner to a T. 

We have also designed and delivered training programs on behalf of vocational colleges and higher education institutes on how to start a business or a creative side gig quickly and easily, and how to start marketing yourself as a soloist.

Our masterminds and one-to-one business coaching are for established businesses who are seeking to refine, pivot, or scale.

What support is available for scaling established businesses?

with big businesses? We can help. Want to leverage your expertise into assets, such as premium group programs, a certification, book, keynotes, or more? Not a problem.

Want to secure funding from investors? Or scale your e-commerce business? We don’t do this. Want to grow your team of employees? We can recommend others, but this is not our area of expertise.

Our favourite business model is the soloist who has deep expertise, who has a lean business, perhaps with a handful of other consultants or support staff, with an enviable profit margin, doing impactful work. They likely have some big corporate clients and assets to leverage, such as a certification or group program, keynotes or book.

These clients come to us to refine their messaging, further leverage and commercialise their work, streamline their marketing efforts, and do more of what they love, and less of what they don’t.

Do the programs offer insights for businesses in transition or rebranding?

Yes! In fact, many owners become Hustle & Heart clients for the first time because they’re in a state of transition. Maybe they’ve got a new brand, but are having trouble or feeling uncertain about launching this. Maybe they’ve changed and evolved, but their brand, messaging, marketing, and offer suite is not accurately representing them. Maybe they’re in a state of uncertainty, in a liminal space, and seeking a strategic thought partner to help them define their big vision and plot their next strategic, high-impact move. 

Can Hustle & Heart help solopreneurs move to building a team?

We have helped innumerable solopreneurs to better outsource their key marketing, business development and admin tasks. This is harder than it appears, especially if the people you’re outsourcing to are waiting for you to lead them, and you’re doing so remotely. 

We have worked with innumerable solopreneurs who’ve hired their first employees and celebrated with them, as they’ve relocated overseas, enabling an international, virtual microempire to be their new reality.

We aren’t, however, specialists in team culture building and recruiting talent. We can recommend some great businesses who do just this.  

How do I make decisions more effectively?

Decision making is a key business skill that’s not talked about nearly enough. Many owners struggle with this – the key issues we see are:

  • Small decisions are overwrought. What should take 40 minutes to decide blows out to weeks (months? years?).
  • Big decisions are rushed and not properly considered: decisions such as naming, messaging, your offering ecosystem, whether or not to establish your personal brand alongside your business name, or just to trade under your name.
  • No decision is made and the owner is letting other, stronger personalities make decisions on their behalf. They’re not recognising their own power. They’re outsourcing their responsibilities and wondering why they’re not happy.

What lead generation strategies does Hustle & Heart recommend?

There is no one lead generation strategy that delivers above all others. Some businesses will tell you there is, because us humans love simplicity. How do I optimise my lead conversion rates?

Great question! Typically, this comes down to three things: audience match; messaging; design.

Audience match is about talking to the right people. If you’re trying to sell dog food to people who hate dogs, then it doesn’t matter how great your marketing is, right?

Messaging is saying something worth listening to – are you speaking to your ideal clients, in their words, in scaringly specific detail, so that they trust you? This is a big piece of the puzzle.

Finally, design. Design is part-and-parcel of positioning and professionalism. If your brand image is out-of-date, it erodes trust in your audience.

What industries does Hustle & Heart cater to?

Hustle & Heart specialises in values-based business owners who work in professional services. Approximately a third of our clients work in the health sector, including yoga studio owners, Pilates studio owners, osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists, clinical psychologists and psychotherapists, and others.

Approximately a third of our clients work in marketing/communications, including PR consultancies, digital marketing agency owners, social media marketers, videographers and photographers, website designers and graphic designers, and others.

And the final third are knowledge workers, including consultants, strategists, coaches, mentors, thought leaders, advisors, authors and keynote speakers.

We don’t work with product businesses, e-commerce, retailers or manufacturers.

What types of business models are covered in Hustle & Heart's programs?

We have worked with all kinds of different business models over the years, all in professional services. We have helped innumerable business owners to transition their face-to-face, bricks-and-mortar business completely, or partially online. This may involve selling digital products, premium group programs and masterminds, licensing or franchising, keynote speaking or writing a book. There are many ways to create assets to leverage and stop selling your hours for dollars.

Does Hustle & Heart work with online businesses?

Yes we do. We have helped thousands of owners over the years to transition their face-to-face, bricks-and-mortar business online. And we have trained innumerable people to start their online businesses, selling professional services, flagship group programs, licensing, affiliate marketing, and other online services. 

We love the online business model for several reasons – first, its flexibility and potential to scale. Second, it’s fabulous for countries such as Australia which are geographically vast but with tiny populations. Third, the online business model is perfect for owners with marginalised identities, who struggle in mainstream work and jobs. If you’re looking for freedom and flexibility, an online business can be amazing.

How do I choose a business model?

What is an offerings ecosystem? Why is it important?

An offerings ecosystem is what you sell: your particular set of offerings. Many professional services businesses struggle to scale and sell effectively because they haven’t packaged their services, or productised. Or, their business model isn’t leveraged – which means they’re still exchanging hours for money, which means their time is maxed out and they need to hire more people to free up their time – this does not create more profits, but it often creates more stress.

Ideally, your offerings ecosystem enables new clients to quickly and easily get value out of your business with an introductory offer. A highly effective offerings ecosystem has a high client retention rate and a high client lifetime value (CLV) because it’s continually delivering value and anticipating future needs.

What is the ascension model? Do you recommend it?

The ascension model guides new clients through a series of increasingly valuable products or services, often leading to higher-value offerings. The idea is to start with selling something cheap, then offer higher and higher priced offerings.

The ascension model is attractive for its simplicity, but humans are complicated and they don’t like to be told what to do. This is why we prefer to concept of an offerings ecosystem. We’ve witnesses many clients spend varying amounts over many years, and many clients first purchase from us is multiple thousands inside of our Hustle & Heart program, our Audacious mastermind, or our Leverage mastermind. It’s not unusual for people to find us through Google and leap straight into one-to-one business coaching with Brook. So no, we don’t recommend the ascension model because it’s not how humans work.
